Area suitability check

Run an initial suitability screening under Isometric's Reforestation Protocol v1.0 by:
  • 1. Uploading your project area
  • 2. Reviewing the guidance below to address any overlaps with the data layers
  • 3. Requesting your full eligibility assessment
Net warming impact
Projects cannot lead to net warmingProtocol
Projects cannot include any areas where reforestation is expected to result in a net warming effect on the climate due to biophysical changes (e.g., albedo) which outweigh the benefits of carbon removal. To be eligible, areas indicated as having a net climate warming effect by the map must be excluded from the project area, or additional evidence must be supplied to demonstrate the net climate benefit of the project in these areas.
Recent deforestation
Projects cannot occur in areas with deforestation in the past 10 yearsProtocol
To avoid creating incentives for deforestation, projects cannot reforest any areas where deforestation occurred in the prior ten years. The data layer indicates areas where deforestation was observed between 2015-2024, and thus would be ineligible for a project with a 2025 start date. Potential exceptions can be made if the deforestation is the result of a natural disaster, or if sufficient evidence can be provided to show it was the result of non-commercial common practice in the region.
Wetlands
Projects must not occur on wetlands or peatlandsProtocol
Reforestation projects cannot include any terrestrial or tidal wetlands (e.g., peatlands, marshes, mangroves) in order to protect these ecosystems and the carbon stored within them. If the map shows wetlands within the project bounds, these areas must be excluded or additional evidence must be provided to demonstrate that these areas are not wetlands.
Water risk
Projects must not harm the quantity or quality of local water resourcesProtocol
Projects which include any areas where reforestation presents a risk to local water resources must provide details of plans to minimize and monitor impacts on water resources. These high risk areas shown in the map are areas where there is both high existing stress on water resources and where reforestation is expected to cause further decline in water availability.
