Summary

Carbonyx is a biochar carbon removal project that sources slash and harvest residues left after commercial plantation forestry operations in New Zealand, which would otherwise decompose and release carbon back into the atmosphere. Using advanced pyrolysis technology, the woody biomass is converted into durable biochar suitable for long-term soil carbon storage. The project applies a conservative, cradle-to-grave life-cycle assessment boundary, with emissions fully allocated to the biochar, and conducts ongoing biochar testing to verify consistent carbon durability as production scales. Cula’s digital MRV platform provides end-to-end monitoring and traceability from feedstock sourcing and production through transport and final soil application.

Buffer pools
