Summary
Charm procures pyrolysis bio-oil produced by AECN, from waste material produced by a nearby lumber mill. A combination of rail and truck is used to transport the bio-oil to a pre-processing site in Kansas where it is treated to fit the local regulatory requirements for injection, before being trucked to a permitted slurry injection well site in Hutchinson, Kansas for sequestration underground.
How carbon is being removed
Biomass Carbon Removal and Storage (BiCRS) involves storing carbon present in biomass, which is organic material originating from living or recently living organisms. Examples of products stored are biomass in its original form, dried biomass, or products produced from biomass such as bio-oil or bio-char.
